The Dodgers' offensive demise has been greatly exaggerated. There was flukey weather in Game 3 in the NLDS, Logan Webb twice dominated them and Max Fried spread their hits around well in Game 1 of the NLCS. Those things happen. The Dodgers also scored nine runs in Game 2 of the NLDS and seven in Game 4. They are ready to pounce on Ian Anderson, who had a 4.39 ERA in the last month of the regular season. On the other side, Max Scherzer will deal with his team's back against the wall.
Max Scherzer is an all-time great pitcher, but man when he's on the mound the Dodgers' line is inflated. He's also on short rest after earning the save in Game 5 vs. the Giants. LA's bullpen has been hugely overworked of late. No such rest worries for Atlanta's Ian Anderson, who dominated the Brewers last Monday and has allowed only 3 ER in his past three. We'll take the runline at -120, which seems awfully cheap.
Ian Anderson has faced the Dodgers once this season and he allowed 4 ER in 4.1 IP on just 1 hit and 3 walks. The Braves have seen Max Scherzer plenty from his time in the NL East, but he hasn’t allowed more than 1 run in either of his first 2 postseason starts, and he threw six scoreless on September 1 against them. In the NLCS last season, Anderson allowed 0 runs in 4 IP and 2 ER in 3 IP, so even if he does pitch well he won’t go very deep. The Dodgers outhit the Braves yesterday and had many more chances, they just couldn’t push that last run across. I expect them to push a few across early against Anderson today and chase him.
