Washington Redskins-Kansas City Chiefs Odds and Picks Against the Spread
WASHINGTON REDSKINS AT KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (-7, O/U 49), Mon., 8:30 p.m.
The Chiefs are off to a torrid start, with three straight wins by an average of 12 points each.
Their newfound wrinkles on offense to go along with a reliable defense have many observers already putting them on the short list as among the best teams in the NFL.
Kansas City will have a chance to prove it Monday night against a Redskins team that has bounced back from a disappointing opening-day performance with two wins of its own. Washington is coming off a 27-10 win over the Raiders on Sunday night.
LINE MOVEMENTS AND TRENDS
This spread opened as steep as Chiefs -9 in some markets, but the action on the underdog was swift. The consensus number is now Kansas City -7, and will likely there until kickoff.
The total opened at 49, which is still widely available. Some shops have adjusted a half-point down to 48.5.
The favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in this series, but Washington hasn’t covered in the past five contests. The Chiefs are on a 6-2 ATS run against winning teams, but Washington has covered four straight versus winning opponents.
BREAKDOWN
The Washington defense looked shaky at times in its season opener, but has allowed just 30 points combined in the past two games after allowing 30 against Philadelphia.
The Redskins will need another solid effort in order to slow down the suddenly explosive Chiefs, led by rookie all-purpose back Kareem Hunt. The Toledo product had 172 rushing yards on 11 carries in a 24-10 win over the Chargers last weekend.
Washington currently ranks No. 4 in the NFL against the rush, allowing an average of 3.2 yards per carry while also forcing four fumbles.
Redskins QB Kirk Cousins is No. 9 in the NFL with 261 passing yards per game. He has been efficient, with a 68 percent completion rate and 105.3 passer rating. Kansas City ranks No. 26 n passing defense, allowing 257 yards per game.
