On Saturday night, UFC 206 comes to us from Toronto, Canada, with a fight for the Interim featherweight championship between Max Holloway and Anthony "Showtime" Pettis. Holloway is a -175 favorite, with Pettis getting +145 as the underdog.
Holloway has won nine fights in a row, with his last loss coming in August 2013 against Conor McGregor. Holloway, 25, will be making his first PPV main event appearance and that can sometimes be overwhelming to a young fighter.
Pettis, the former lightweight champion, will be familiar with the bright lights of a main event. Pettis had lost three fights in a row before dropping to the featherweight division, where he submitted always-tough Charles Oliveira in the third round in August.
I always like a fighter during his second time moving down, as the weight cut is easier and less stressful on the body. This is a real tough fight to call, but feel like Pettis is being undervalued here and, at only 29, he still has plenty of upside.
In what should be an action-packed fight, take Pettis, who has the better all-around MMA game, to upset Holloway and become the interim featherweight champion.
Pick: Pettis (+145)
UFC Fight Night: Derrick Lewis vs. Shamil Abdurakhimov, heavyweights
Odds: Lewis (-200), Abdurakhimov (+160).
UFC offers two cards this weekend, so we'll also cover the UFC Fight Night on Friday (available only on UFC Fight Pass) from Albany, N.Y., with a heavyweight fight between Derrick Lewis (-200) and Shamil Abdurakhimov (+160).
This one seems pretty easy, as Lewis has won his last four fights. Three of those wins have come by KO, including his win over Gabriel Gonzaga . He also took a decision win over always-tough Roy Nelson in his last fight.
Abdurakhimov has won his last two fights, but against much weaker competition. Take Lewis to probably knock out Abdurakhimov early in the fight.
Pick: Lewis (-200)Â
