Stars vs. Oilers odds, 2023-24 NHL lines: Advanced computer model reveals hockey picks for Friday's Game 5 matchup

The SportsLine Projection Model has a pick for Saturday's NHL Western Conference Final Game 5 matchup between the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers

The Dallas Stars host the Edmonton Oilers in Game 5 of the 2024 NHL Western Conference Final on Friday. Dallas took a 2-1 series lead with a 5-3 win in Game 3 and kicked off the second game north of the border with a 2-0 first period lead. However, Connor McDavid's team rallied to get a 5-2 win and tie the best-of-seven series up 2-2.

Opening faceoff at American Airlines Center is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. Dallas is a -129 favorite (risk $129 to win $100) on the money line in the latest Stars vs. Oilers odds from SportsLine consensus while Edmonton is a +109 underdog. The over/under for total goals scored is 6 and Dallas is a -1.5 (+197) favorite on the puck line. (See the latest lines for every game on our NHL odds page).

Before making any Stars vs. Oilers picks, you NEED to see the latest NHL predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

SportsLine's model simulates every NHL game 10,000 times, taking into account factors like current form, individual matchups, injuries and short- and long-term trends when making NHL picks. It entered the 2024 NHL playoffs on a 7-4 run on top-rated puck-line picks.

The model knows the Oilers will try to ride the wave from Game 4. McDavid was the set-up specialist with three assists on the evening, as Leon Draisaitl, Evan Bouchard, Mattias Janmark, Mattias Ekholm and Ryan McLeod all found the back of the net. This is the type of depth scoring that Edmonton has been missing so far in this series and it paid off in a big way. They will need it to continue if they want to make it to the Stanley Cup Final.

However, the model also knows that the Stars can rebound in a big way. They haven't lost consecutive games since getting into an 0-2 hole against the Vegas Golden Knights to start the playoffs. Dallas' depth will be tested if Chris Tanev is still sidelined after leaving in the second period of Game 4 with a lower-body injury, but the Stars have shown they have no problem with a "next man up" game plan. They are expected to have a response on home ice on Friday.

Now, the model has set its sights on Stars vs. Oilers. We can tell you it's leaning Under on the goal total, but it also says one side of the money line has ALL the value! You ABSOLUTELY need to see it before locking in any NHL picks of your own.

So who wins Oilers vs. Stars on Friday, and which side of the money line has ALL the value? ... Join SportsLine right now to find out which side of the Oilers vs. Stars money line you should be all over, all from the model that has simulated this matchup 10,000 times!
