SMU vs. BYU odds, line: Advanced computer college football model releases spread pick for Friday's game

SportsLine's projection model has generated selections for the matchup between the Mustangs and Cougars

Two undefeated teams looking to stay perfect this season will collide when the SMU Mustangs host the BYU Cougars on Friday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas. The Mustangs (2-0) have opened the season with victories against Nevada and an FCS team, Houston Christian. Meanwhile, the Cougars (1-0) are coming off a 41-13 victory over Southern Illinois in their season opener. Friday's game will be the fifth all-time meeting between SMU and BYU. The Cougars lead the series 4-0.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. ET. The Mustangs are 13-point favorites in the latest SMU vs. BYU odds, while the over/under for total points scored is 55.5. (See up-to-date odds for every game this week on our college football odds page.)

Before making any BYU vs. SMU picks or college football predictions, you NEED to see the predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

The model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times. Since its inception, it has generated a profit of over $2,000 for $100 players on its top-rated college football picks against the spread. It is also coming off a profitable 13-9 season on top-rated spread picks. Anyone who has followed it has seen strong returns.

The model knows that SMU has been dominant at home recently. The Mustangs have won nine straight games at home, which is tied for the fourth-longest streak in program history and tied for the fifth-longest active streak in college football. They have averaged 53.9 points a game during the home winning streak.

But the model also has taken into account that BYU has a disruptor on the edge in defensive end Tyler Batty. A 6-foot-5, 275-pound senior, Batty entered the season ranked fifth among active Power Four players with 101 career quarterback pressures. Prior to the season he was named to the preseason all-Big 12 team.

For Friday, the model has set its sights on SMU vs. BYU. We can tell you it is leaning Over the total, predicting a combined 69 points. It also says one side of the spread hits in nearly 70% of simulations! You ABSOLUTELY need to see it before locking in any college football picks.
