No. 7 Miami vs. Virginia Tech odds, line: Advanced computer college football model releases spread pick for Friday's ACC game

SportsLine's projection model has generated selections for the matchup between the Hurricanes and Hokies

The No. 7 Miami Hurricanes will look to stay undefeated when they host the Virginia Tech Hokies in the teams' ACC opener on Friday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. The Hurricanes (4-0) have started the season with four blowout wins. Their smallest margin of victory this season has been 24 points, in the season opener at Florida. Meanwhile the Hokies (2-2) are coming off a 26-23 loss against Rutgers, which ended a two-game winning streak.

Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. ET. The Hurricanes are 19.5-point favorites in the latest Miami vs. Virginia Tech odds, while the over/under for total points scored is 54.5. (See up-to-date odds for every game this week on our college football odds page.)

Before making any Virginia Tech vs. Miami picks or college football predictions, you NEED to see the predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

The model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times. Since its inception, it has generated a profit of well over $2,000 for $100 players on its top-rated college football picks against the spread. It is also coming off a profitable 13-9 season on top-rated spread picks. Anyone who has followed it has seen strong returns.

The model knows that the Hurricanes have one of the top players in the country in quarterback Cam Ward. A transfer from Washington State, Ward leads the country in passing touchdowns (14) while ranking second in many categories, including total offense (382.0 yards per game). After the fast start, he has become the betting favorite for the Heisman Trophy (+450).

But the model also has taken into account that the Hokies have a sack artist in Antwaun Powell-Ryland. A 6-foot-3, 252-pound senior, Powell-Ryland is tied for second in the country in sacks per game (1.38). Led by Powell-Ryland, Virginia Tech ranks 10th in the nation in sacks per game as a team (3.25).

For Friday, the model has set its sights on Miami vs. Virginia Tech. We can tell you it is leaning Over the total, predicting a combined 61 points, and it also says one side of the spread hits in well over 50% of simulations. You ABSOLUTELY need to see it before locking in any college football picks.
