Five-point swings from lookahead lines to spreads during the week of games are uncommon. We benefited from the latest one.

In last week's lookahead, I was surprised to see the blazing Detroit Lions getting 1.5 points from Green Bay. Now the Packers are on the receiving end at 3.5 points. The NFL world has caught on that there is currently no better team than Detroit, which was last seen demolishing Tennessee 52-14. Another factor for the shift is the uncertain status of Packers quarterback Jordan Love (groin).

I snagged Denver at +10.5 against Baltimore, thinking the line might sink into single digits. Indeed, it did — to 9.5 after the Broncos roughed up Carolina for their fifth straight-up win in their last six outings and the Ravens got ambushed by Cleveland.

Speaking of which...

My lone miscall was on the Los Angeles Chargers. I chose them at -3 agains Cleveland, thinking the Browns would remain in free fall. The insertion of veteran Jameis Winston at quarterback sparked the upset, forcing the line down to -1.5.
