New York Jets 2023 futures: Super Bowl odds, win total picks, best bets, schedule and more

What can you expect from the New York Jets this season? SportsLine experts have you covered.

Given the market in which the team operates, there is always a booming discussion around the New York Jets. That is certainly the case in advance of the 2023 NFL season, as the team made clear strides in 2022. The Jets won only seven games, but that was a sharp uptick from six combined wins in the previous two campaigns. From there, New York made one of the biggest splashes of the offseason, acquiring Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers.

The 39-year-old Rodgers represents a massive upgrade for the Jets at the quarterback position, even if he may be past his prime. The 10-time Pro Bowl selection and four-time MVP winner threw for nearly 3,700 yards with more than twice as many touchdowns (26) as interceptions (12) last season. For the Jets, the passing game was a disaster for much of the campaign, and New York's investment in Rodgers should work wonders for an emerging group of skill position players.

On the outside, Garrett Wilson is an emerging star. The wide receiver from Ohio State generated more than 80 catches and 1,100 yards as a rookie, and did so with suboptimal quarterback play. The Jets also made moves to strengthen the wide receiver crew around him, and standout running back Breece Hall projects to return from an ACL injury that prematurely ended his rookie campaign. If nothing else, the Jets will look to improve on bottom-tier offensive numbers from last season, including the No. 29 mark in the league in total points (296).

Defensively, the Jets would likely be thrilled with the status quo from a year ago. While the offense floundered, the defense was outstanding, allowing only 18.6 points per game. That ranked in the top five of the NFL despite challenging circumstances, and Robert Saleh's group was also in the top five in total yards allowed, first downs allowed, passing touchdowns allowed, and net yards allowed per pass attempt. The sky is the limit for the Jets if the team can replicate its 2022 defense while making the widely projected leap on offense under Rodgers.
