Jacksonville Jaguars 2023 futures: Super Bowl odds, win total picks, best bets, schedule and more
The Jacksonville Jaguars are suddenly on a rapid rise, and everything appears to be coming together entering training camp for the 2023 NFL season. The Jaguars won the AFC South for the first time since 2017, and they even won a playoff game.
They went 9-8, but that came after Jacksonville posted the league's worst record in consecutive seasons. The first of those No. 1 draft picks was used on quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and his breakout season was a big part of the team's success. Now, the Jaguars are looking for even bigger things in Year 2 for coach Doug Pederson. Â Â
The Jaguars are strong -175 favorites to win the AFC South in Caesars Sportsbook's latest 2023 NFL futures odds. Jacksonville is +1300 to win the AFC and +2500 to win the Super Bowl, while the over/under for regular-season wins is 10.
Pederson won Super Bowl 52 with the Eagles in 2017, the same year the Jags lost at New England in the AFC title game. Now, he is the boss in Jacksonville, and his presence had a clear impact on Lawrence. The former Clemson star threw 13 more touchdown passes (25) and nine fewer interceptions (eight) in his second season. He showed clear improvement in the second half of the season, so even more is expected this year.
Lawrence has plenty of talent around him in an offense that was 10th in the NFL in total yards (357 per game) in 2022. Receiver Calvin Ridley was acquired in November and has been reinstated after a gambling suspension. He joins a receiving corps that also features Christian Kirk and Zay Jones, who combined for 166 receptions for 1,931 yards as Lawrence topped 4,000 passing yards in 2022. Â
Running back Travis Etienne, the 25th overall pick in the 2021 draft, rushed for 1,125 yards (5.1 per carry) and had 35 receptions. Now he is joined in the backfield by bruiser Tank Bigsby, a third-round pick out of Auburn. Lawrence also has some rushing ability (291 yards in 2022), so the offense should be balanced.
The Jaguars defense ranked 24th overall in 2022, but it also is brimming with young playmakers on the verge of breaking out. Travon Walker was the 2022 first overall pick out of Georgia, and he had some growing pains as a rookie, producing 3.5 sacks. Josh Allen, a 2019 first-round pick, had 7.5 sacks and 40 pressures, and Devin Lloyd, the 27th overall pick in 2022, had five takeaways. Foyesade Oluokun led the NFL in tackles for a second straight season.
The secondary is still a question mark, but cornerback Tyson Campbell had three interceptions and broke up nine passes last season. Safety Andre Cisco also had three picks to go with 75 tackles, and both are just 23.
The Jaguars' recent woes allowed them to stockpile talent, and they are ready to reap the rewards. The Jags showed their mettle in rallying from 27-0 down to beat the Chargers in their wild-card game in January before they lost to the Chiefs, the eventual champions.
Now, they have even higher expectations. Playing in a weak AFC South helps, but back-to-back games in London in October make the schedule a little unusual. Facing the Chiefs and Bills in the first five weeks, the latter in London, will be a good gauge of their potential for 2023. The Jags also take on the AFC North and the woeful NFC South, and five of those eight games are after the bye in Week 9.
