Golf Picks: WGC-Bridgestone winners and DFS picks
After taking a week to bask in the glow of my U.S. Open pick of Dustin Johnson hitting, I'm back to hand out more winners this week at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
A WGC event always has a strong field, but a number of the top European players including Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia are choosing to play in the French Open this week. Even still, the top three players in the world and seven of the top 10 are in the field in Akron this week for what is always one of the premier events on the schedule.
Here are my picks to win at Firestone Country Club as well as a DFS roster for this week ...
My Foursome
Brooks Koepka (20/1): Koepka is in great form recently, with a pair of runner-up finishes and a T13 at the U.S. Open in his last three events. He was T6 here last year and I'd expect him to be in one of the final pairings on Sunday.
Shane Lowry (35/1): Yes, Lowry had his Sunday struggles at the U.S. Open, but he still played fantastic golf for three days at Oakmont and should be confident coming in this week. It doesn't hurt that he's the defending champion here, so we know he likes this course.
Daniel Berger (50/1): Berger won the week before the U.S. Open and posted a solid T37 at Oakmont. He's playing well coming in and is looking to make a late push for the Ryder Cup team, so there's plenty of motivation.
Danny Lee (90/1): Lee was hanging near the top of the leaderboard early at the U.S. Open before Oakmont came to get him, but he wast T6 at the Bridgestone last year and can take some positives from his early performance at Oakmont.
My DFS Roster
Robby's Daily Fantasy Roster is based off of a standard $50,000 DraftKings game
Brooks Koepka ($9,900): Even if he doesn't win, the way he's playing it would be a shock if he didn't produce a top 10 or top 15 finish.
Matt Kuchar ($9,800): Kuchar had a bit of a hiccup at Oakmont, but he still had four straight T6 finishes in the weeks prior. I'll take him to get back on track this week.
Justin Thomas ($8,000): Thomas has had his struggles at times this year, but seems to be getting on track in recent weeks. He was T12 at Congressional last week and he's a streaky kind of golfer.
Russell Knox ($7,500): Knox has been really solid in events on the PGA Tour this year. He has three top 25s in his last four events, including a T23 at the U.S. Open. Another top 25 here would be great.
Danny Lee ($7,400): Lee played well here last year and Firestone is a course where guys tend to get comfortable. I like the value for him at this price.
Kevin Chappell ($7,400): Chappell, when he's on, can be really good -- he has five top 10 finishes this year. He also has six missed cuts, so it's not the safest play, but for the price it's a worthwhile risk.
