Golf Picks: Valero Texas Open winners and DFS roster
Now two weeks removed from the Masters and the majority of the PGA Tour's stars are still on a post-Augusta vacation as the Tour heads to TPC San Antonio.
The Valero Texas Open doesn't feature the strongest field this year, but there are still some intriguing players this week, most notably Bryson DeChambeau who has quickly become the biggest topic of conversation in the world of golf.
Here are my four favorite plays on the board this week as well as a daily fantasy roster.
My Foursome
Bryson DeChambeau (25/1): It's a matter of when -- not if -- DeChambeau breaks through for his first PGA Tour victory. The Masters low amateur turned heads at Augusta, turned pro and turned in a T4 finish at Hilton Head last week.
He was first in the field in strokes gained tee-to-green in blustery conditions, which is something you can come to expect from the budding star with the unique swing. If he can make putts this week down in San Antonio, with a weak field around him, it wouldn't shock me to see him pick up that first career win this week.
Charley Hoffman (25/1): The last three years Hoffman has posted T11, T11 and T3 in San Antonio. He played well at the Masters and figures to be in good form heading back to a course he's performed well at in the past.
Chris Kirk (40/1): Kirk is one of those steady performers on the Tour that plods along with a lot of made cuts and top 25 finishes. He was T8 last year at this event and with a weak field this week I wouldn't be surprised if he putts his way to a win.
Daniel Summerhays (60/1): Summerhays loves TPC San Antonio. His last three trips have gone T4, T2 and T7. That's pretty dang good. It's definitely worth picking him up at 60-1.
My DFS Roster
Robby's Daily Fantasy Roster based off of a standard $50,000 game on DraftKings
Bryson DeChambeau ($9,800): I can't say enough about how all in I am on DeChambeau. He's as consistent a ball-striker as you'll see on Tour, he hits it a mile off the tee and it's all about the putter for him.
Chris Kirk ($9,000): I like Kirk in this price range way more than a Russell Henley (another former Georgia Bulldog). He gets a lot of top 25 finishes and this is the type of tournament that he could contend in.
Ryan Palmer ($8,500): T6 here last year and he's a cut machine (made 10-of-11 this season). He's yet to make a top 10 this season, but a bunch of cuts and top 25 finishes is worth it for a guy who had one of his best finishes of the season in 2015 at this tournament.
Daniel Summerhays ($8,300): Again, he hasn't finished worse than seventh here in the last three years. Take him. Get rich.
Patrick Rodgers ($7,300): So here's the issue with a field like this. The guys under the average dollar amount are not going to be the world's most consistent guys. No one's more boom or bust than Rodgers. He's made 8-of-13 cuts this year, and seven of those made cuts were top 25 finishes. We'll know if this pick is going to work out on Thursday afternoon.
Cameron Tringale ($7,000): Taking a wild swing in the dark with this one. He's made the cut here in three of the last four years and was T8 in 2012. I need someone down the money list to round out the squad and I feel the most comfortable with Tringale.
