Golf Picks: RBC Canadian Open winners and DFS picks
We're firmly into the craziest stretch of the golf schedule as the PGA Tour stops off in Canada this week for the RBC Canadian Open in the only week between the British Open and the PGA Championship.
Despite this being the only chance for rest between the final two majors of the year, there is still a decent field heading to Glen Abbey Golf Club headlined by Jason Day -- the defending champion -- and Dustin Johnson.
Those two will gather the most attention this week, but there's some quality in this field behind them as well.
Here are my picks for the RBC Canadian Open as well as a DFS Roster ...
My Foursome
Brandt Snedeker (22/1): Snedeker was T22 at the British Open last week and won at Glen Abbey back in 2013. He's working on back-to-back top 25s in his last two events and with the field relatively thin behind Day and Johnson, I'd expect him to be near the top of the leaderboard.
William McGirt (45/1): My guy Dirt McGirt has a win and a T7 in his last two non-major starts on the PGA Tour. He was T2 at Glen Abbey back in 2013 behind Snedeker and has been sneakily solid all year. I think he'll be in the mix come Sunday.
Charley Hoffman (50/1): Hoffman has cooled off since May, but he's still making cuts and is heading back to an event where he's had some success in the past -- T7 last year, T16 in 2013. I'm looking for him to get back into contention this week after a number of mediocre performances.
Daniel Summerhays (80/1): Summerhays has made his last nine cuts with five top 25s in those nine starts, with his best finish being a T8 at the U.S. Open. I like his form coming in and he was T11 at Glen Abbey a year ago.
Robby's DFS Roster
Matt Kuchar ($10,600): I like Sneds' value more on the odds list, but for the DFS roster I think Kuchar is the play for only slightly more. Kuch has a top 5 finish in each of his last five non-major starts and, at worst, he should give you a quality finish here if not contend for the win.
Jon Rahm ($8,600): I love Rahm's game, and while there has to be a little concern that he may go the way of Bryson DeChambeau and start to fade, I think he's going to be solid again this week.
Emiliano Grillo ($8,500): Grillo has three top 15 finishes in his last four starts, all at strong venues -- the British Open, WGC-Bridgestone and the Memorial -- so I think this is fantastic value for a guy currently in fine form.
William McGirt ($7,700): I honestly think McGirt has a good chance to win this week, so to get him at this price feels like a steal.
Graham DeLaet ($7,500): DeLaet had a good showing last week at the Barbasol and the Canadian will be plenty motivated to play well in his home country's championship this week. Look for DeLaet to post a quality finish at Glen Abbey this week.
Daniel Summerhays ($7,000): With the way he's been playing of late and him having played well at this course in the past, I can't understand why he's valued so low. Whatever you want to do at the top of your roster, I think Summerhays and McGirt are must-play values in DFS this week.
