Golf Picks: Memorial Tournament winners and DFS picks

The Memorial Tournament boasts one of the best non-major fields of the year, and this week is no different. Our Robby Kalland shares his best bets and daily fantasy roster.

The Memorial Tournament is one of the PGA Tour's premier events, as the best players descend on Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio for Jack Nicklaus' tournament.

The three best players in the world -- all coming off of wins in their most recent starts -- are in attendance as the Memorial typically features one of the best non-major fields in golf.

For someone like me who is averse to picking favorites, that's a double-edged sword. There are some really good golfers a little further down the odds list than normal, but there is also good reason for that, as those top 3 are not only in the field but in peak form.

That said, let's try to find some value for picks and a daily fantasy roster.

My Foursome

Hideki Matsuyama (14/1): If you read my tournament previews regularly or follow me on Twitter you know my love for Matsuyama. I pick him a reasonable amount because he's a top 10 machine and on the (rare) occasion that his putter is working, he can beat anyone.

However, this week I'm using my head as much as my heart with this pick. Matsuyama got his first career win at the Memorial in 2014 and backed it up with a T5 last year. This course fits his game -- you have to be accurate and precise -- and he knows the greens.

Jason Dufner (50/1): Dufner is the kind of ball striker who should have success at Muirfield. He's got top 25 finishes the last two years and he's rounding into some good form after a T24 at the Byron Nelson and T6 at the Dean & DeLuca last week. Look for him to have another good week here and be in contention on Sunday.

Rafael Cabrera-Bello (80/1): He doesn't play a ton on the PGA Tour, but he's finished T11, 3rd, 4th and T17 in two WGC events, the Shell Houston and the Masters (he missed the cut by one at The Players). Those are really strong events in which he's performed well. He's been over on the European Tour since the Masters and has three straight top 25s, including a T8 at the Irish Open. I think he's going to perform very well this week.

Tony Finau (100/1): Finau is in pretty good form the last two weeks with a T12 and T38 (even though last week he made headlines for an errant tee shot that hit a spectator). He finished T8 here in 2015 and I like the way he's playing recently. He can bomb it off the tee, but he's learning to put himself in good positions off the tee rather than just try and rip it 350 every tee shot. Worth a shot at that price.

My DFS Roster

Hideki Matsuyama ($10,600): For all of the reasons listed above. He's great at this event and I don't expect that to change this week.

Dustin Johnson ($10,100): Dustin has been playing some really good golf recently. He's finished in the top 25 in six of his last seven starts, including a T12 last week at Colonial. After some poor performances at the Memorial in previous starts, Johnson found something last year for a T13.

With his form right now and good recent memories at this event, I like his chances this week. He's been, at worst, a very solid finisher in recent weeks and has the game to win anywhere if it all clicks.

Rafael Cabrera-Bello ($7,900): I think he's a really good value here. He's been a strong finisher in very few PGA Tour starts -- his limited schedule in the States helps as he's not a popular selection -- and is in good form over on the European Tour. Scoop him up.

Charles Howell III ($7,400): Y'all know the rule, if Chuck's in the field you take him for value. I stuck with him last week and he paid off with a T4 finish at Colonial. He's a top 25 machine and I'm going to continue to ride him.

Anirban Lahiri ($7,200): Lahiri has made the cut in five straight events and pulled it all together last week for a T6. We need some value plays so we can have Matsuyama and Johnson and I think he keeps up his solid play this week.

Soren Kjeldsen ($6,600): He's another guy that plays a light PGA Tour schedule, but he's in pretty good form over on the European Tour. He struggled a bit to a T70 at the BMW PGA last week but had a T19 and T4 the two events prior to that as well as a T7 finish at the Masters. I like this value play way down the board.
