Golf Picks: FedEx St. Jude Classic winners and DFS picks

One more event before the golf world focuses on Oakmont for next week's U.S. Open. Our Robby Kalland sifts through a shallow field of contenders at this week's St. Jude Classic.

The U.S. Open is a week away, and while most of the golf world has focused attention on Oakmont Country Club, the PGA Tour rolls into Memphis for the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

This event is hurt by its scheduling this year even more than most because of how difficult Oakmont is, so we're looking at arguably the worst field of the season to date.

Dustin Johnson is there as the heavy favorite and co-headliner along with Phil Mickelson, but there's not much else in the way of name brands in the field.

You know what that means, though. It's time to dig a bit and try and find a little value on the board if possible.

Here are my picks and DFS roster for this week at TPC Southwind:

My Foursome

Brooks Koepka (12/1): His last start was at the Byron Nelson, a second-place finish in which he imploded in a playoff against Sergio Garcia. That said, he looked fantastic for about 69 holes that week before having a minor meltdown on the last four he played. His game is in good form and this seems like a perfect spot to shake off that disappointment. He finished T3 here a year ago and will be looking to improve that into a win.

Harris English (20/1): English won this event in 2013 and is coming off of a solo second performance at Colonial. He's been a masterful putter this year and seemed to find something with his ball striking two weeks ago. Hopefully he can carry that over to Memphis.

Harold Varner III (80/1): Varner has made some noise in his rookie season on the PGA Tour and seems to be a guy who is going to stick around for awhile. He's got three top 10 finishes this year, including two at the beginning of May. He was in contention at the Memorial through three rounds before ejecting on Sunday, but that's not going to deter him much. This is the type of field and event that's set up for someone to notch that first career win, and I think it could be him.

Bud Cauley (100/1): Another young guy playing some good golf of late. Cauley had a T4 at the Byron Nelson and a T38 a week ago at the Memorial. Don't be surprised if he's in the mix come Sunday afternoon as well. Roll Tide.

My DFS Roster

Robby's Daily Fantasy Roster based off of a standard $50,000 game on DraftKings

Dustin Johnson ($12,800): I'm going to try something different this week and take the favorite -- especially considering how well he's playing recently -- and then fill in the rest of the roster with hopefuls. It will probably backfire, but here we go. Johnson's selection is simple reasoning. He's playing amazing golf recently and anything less than a top 10 finish this week would be fairly shocking.

Retief Goosen ($7,600): I've thoroughly enjoyed the Retief Goosen revival recently. He hasn't played since a T12 at The Players, but he also hasn't missed a cut since January -- 11 events.

Harold Varner III ($7,500): He's been playing well recently, but has struggled to finish four complete rounds. I'm hoping he can do so this week.

Hudson Swafford ($7,400): It's been four straight made cuts for the Georgia product. I like the setup at TPC Southwind for his game. He was T29 here last year and let's look for him to improve on that and earn a top 25 this week.

Jason Bohn ($7,300): He's finished in the top 30 at this event the last three years. If he does that again, it's pretty solid value at this price.

Bud Cauley ($7,200): Part of this pick is based off of his recent play, but I'll be honest, a little part of it is that it's fun to say Roll Tide.
