Golf Picks: AT&T Byron Nelson winners and DFS picks
The AT&T Byron Nelson is our first event following The Players Championship, where Jason Day ran away with the crystal trophy. And despite being the tournament following one of the PGA Tour's top events, we still get a solid field.
Jordan Spieth is the headliner, fulfilling that AT&T sponsorship obligation, and returns home to Texas where he'll look to break out of his slump. Despite those recent struggles, Spieth is still the favorite (7/1) this week, just ahead of Dustin Johnson (8/1).
The last three champions at this event have been lesser known golfers -- Steven Bowditch, Brendon Todd and Sangmoon Bae -- so there might be some good value to be found further down the board.
Here are my picks and daily fantasy roster for this week's event:
My Foursome
Charley Hoffman (22/1): Last time the PGA Tour was in Texas, Hoffman came away victorious. He's also got two top 10 finishes here the last three years, including a T2 last year.
Louis Oosthuizen (33/1): Oosthuizen has played a limited schedule on the PGA Tour this year, but he's coming off solid showing with a T15 at the Masters and a T28 at the Players. Oosthuizen didn't appear here in 2015, but his last time at the Byron Nelson was in 2014 when he finished T11.
Colt Knost (66/1): Knost was top 10 here last year and is coming off of a T3 performance at The Players. His confidence has to be through the roof after his showing at TPC Sawgrass last week and look for him to keep it rolling and compete this week.
Graham DeLaet (75/1): DeLaet has finished in the top 25 the last three years here, including top 10s in 2013 and 2014. After a great March and April, DeLaet has struggled to start May, but hopefully he can get back on track in Dallas where he's comfortable.
My DFS Roster
Robby's Daily Fantasy Roster is based off of a standard $50,000 game on DraftKings.
Louis Oosthuizen ($9,900): Oosthuizen has one of my favorite swings in golf and is one of the best ball-strikers there is. When he putts well, he can compete anywhere.
Charles Howell III ($8,200): It's been a rough start to May for Mr. Howell, with a pair of missed cuts, but prior to the Wells Fargo he was a cut-making, top 25 machine. I look for him to get back on track this week in Dallas.
Tony Finau ($8,100): Finau is quickly becoming one of the most entertaining players to watch due to his ability to mash the ball off the tee. He got his first win earlier this year and finished T10 in 2015 at the Byron Nelson. Look for him to score well this week and compete.
Scott Piercy ($8,000): Piercy finished T15 and T5 here in 2012 and 2013 and hasn't finished worse that T33 in his last five appearances on the PGA Tour, including a T23 last week at The Players Championship. He seems like a safe bet for a solid finish this week.
Graham DeLaet ($7,900): As I mentioned earlier, DeLaet has played well here in recent years and if he can get back to the form he had in March and April -- four finishes of T27 or better -- he'll be nice value in this price slot.
Colt Knost ($7,800): Knost was tremendous all week at TPC Sawgrass and if he can carry that quality of play into this week he can replicate his T10 from last year.
