Fantasy Baseball: Breaking down the 2019 Tout Wars Draft and Hold League
This year, I had the great fortune and amazing honor to be invited to one of the most prestigious Fantasy baseball industry leagues -- Tout Wars (toutwars.com). I was invited to be a part of the inaugural Tout Wars Draft & Hold league.
Tout Wars currently runs six different league formats. Invited to compete are some of the best industry minds. Leagues range from an NL only league auction, to the mixed league draft, which includes our own Scott White.
The Tout Wars Draft & Hold League is a 15-team standard 5x5 mixed Rotisserie draft league, with three major wrinkles:
1). Tout Wars uses On Base Percentage (OBP) instead of Batting Average (BA)
2). Rosters are 50 players deep
3). There are no in-season free agent pickups, nor trading. Your roster is static for the duration of the season.
In some ways, a draft and hold league is the ultimate test of drafting skills.
-You have to plan ahead for possible injures, so you need to acquire enough depth at every position.
-You have to plan ahead for possible real-life trades and role changes. New closers could emerge midseason.Â
-You have to decide on when to draft an up-and-coming rookie, and when to draft an injury returnee.Â
-You have to fully balance statistical categories.Â
-You have to draft players late who will come into more playing time.
There is so much to plan for.
