Bills vs. Texans betting preview: Odds, picks, props, trends, injuries, weather and more for Week 5 matchup

Before you lock in your plays for Sunday's Buffalo at Houston NFL game, check out our full betting preview

The Buffalo Bills look to bounce back from their first loss of the year when they visit the Houston Texans in a battle of division leaders during Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season on Sunday. Buffalo (3-1) sits atop the AFC East despite being trounced 35-10 on the road by the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. AFC South-leading Houston (3-1) is coming off a 24-20 home triumph over the division-rival Jacksonville Jaguars. The teams split their first 10 regular-season meetings, with the Bills routing the Texans 40-0 in Buffalo in 2021 in their most recent matchup.

Buffalo will be facing Stefon Diggs for the first time since trading the star wideout to Houston in April. The 30-year-old Diggs was Josh Allen's favorite receiver during his four-year stint with the Bills, as his 644 targets, 445 receptions, 5,372 receiving yards and 37 touchdown catches were the most among quarterback-receiver duos in the NFL from 2020-23.

Diggs accounted for 28.3% of Buffalo's receptions, 30.1% of its receiving yards and 26.4% of its touchdown catches. Many believed Allen and the Bills' offense would suffer without him and fellow wideout Gabe Davis, who signed with Jacksonville as a free agent in March, but that certainly hasn't been the case.

Buffalo began the campaign with victories against the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins and Jaguars, putting up at least 31 points in each contest. The Bills rank third in the NFL in scoring with an average of 30.5 points and Allen is tied for third with seven touchdown passes.

The Texans have received solid performances thus far from C.J. Stroud, who is showing no signs of suffering from the dreaded sophomore jinx. The 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year is fourth in the league with 1,054 passing yards and has continued to form a strong connection with Nico Collins, a fourth-year wideout who leads the NFL with 489 receiving yards. For their Week 5 matchup on Sunday, the Bills are 1-point favorites in the latest odds via SportsLine consensus, while the over/under for total points is 47.5.
