Kalen DeBoer undoubtedly felt an extreme amount of pressure when he guided the Washington Huskies to the CFP National Championship Game last season. But that may pale in comparison to the level of pressure he will endure as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide, who enter the 2024 season seeking their fourth SEC title in five years.

DeBoer led Washington to its 13th undefeated regular season and a victory against new SEC member Texas in the Sugar Bowl before suffering a 34-13 loss to Michigan for the national title. The 49-year-old is 104-12 as a collegiate head coach, including a 67-3 mark in the NAIA, but now has the distinction of replacing the legendary Nick Saban, who retired this past January after posting a 201-29 record with nine SEC titles and six national championships during his 17-year career at Alabama.

The Georgia Bulldogs figure to make DeBoer's task of leading the Crimson Tide to their second straight conference crown extremely difficult, as Kirby Smart's squad will have revenge on its mind after its 27-24 loss to Alabama in the SEC title game last year. That defeat ended the Bulldogs' 29-game winning streak and denied them the chance for a third consecutive national championship. 

The expanded College Football Playoff gives both Alabama and Georgia strong chances to compete for the national title, as the SEC likely will have two or more teams qualify. In addition to the Crimson Tide (12-2) and Bulldogs (13-1), the Missouri Tigers (11-2), Ole Miss Rebels (11-2) and LSU Tigers (10-3) all reached double figures in victories last season. Throw in the fact that the Texas Longhorns (12-2) and Oklahoma Sooners (10-3) have left the Big 12 to join the fray, and the SEC will be chock full of powerhouses in 2024.
