2024 NFC Championship Game: Commanders vs. Eagles predictions, picks, best bets, player props
Selected with the second pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Saquon Barkley often battled injuries but managed to rush for more than 1,000 yards three times in his six seasons with the New York Giants. He missed three games last year, causing him to fall 38 yards shy of 1,000, and the Giants made little effort to re-sign him as a free agent.
New York's lack of interest turned out to benefit its NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles, who inked Barkley to a three-year, $37.75 million contract last March. The 27-year-old tailback proved the Giants made a bad decision as he led the NFL in rushing in 2024, finishing 101 yards short of breaking the single-season record of 2,105 set in 1984 by Eric Dickerson—a mark he may have eclipsed had he not been rested for the Eagles' regular-season finale against New York.
Barkley has continued to make Philadelphia look good this postseason, running for 119 yards in the team's 22-10 Wild Card victory against the Green Bay Packers before racking up 205 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the 28-22 triumph over the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round. Now, the Eagles hope he helps propel them past the Washington Commanders in the 2025 NFC Championship Game at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday and into Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Feb. 9.
Philadelphia, which is aiming for its second Super Bowl appearance in three years, and Washington split their regular-season series in 2024, with each club winning at home. The Eagles posted a 26-18 victory in Week 11, while the Commanders rallied for a 36-33 triumph in Week 16 as Jayden Daniels—the likely Offensive Rookie of the Year—threw his fifth TD pass of the game with six seconds remaining.
The Commanders are in the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991, when they routed the Detroit Lions and went on to defeat the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVI. Washington got here by edging the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-20 in the Wild Card Round and outslugging top-seeded Detroit 45-31 in the Divisional Round.
A bevy of betting options are available for Sunday's rubber match between two of the NFL's top rushing teams of 2024. Are the Eagles the value side since they are hosting the contest? Will Barkley go over his rushing yardage total of 128.5, which he did in both regular-season meetings? Will Daniels go over his passing touchdown prop of 1.5? He threw a combined six in his first two career matchups against Philadelphia.
