2024 College football betting strategy: Proven expert shares top situational spots for Week 4
Last week, our situational letdown play lost as LSU (-5.5) defeated South Carolina 36-33 but failed to cover the spread. Following a spirted first-half effort from the stubborn Gamecocks, the Tigers had their chances to pull away, but their self-destructive ways allowed South Carolina to take it to the wire. We'll keep an eye on LSU as we expect to see its annual mid-season surge, but the 24-point spread this week against UCLA holds little appeal.
In Week 4, there would be a couple obvious candidates that we have to hold off on because of the schedule. For one, Kentucky (+24.5) came up just short against top-ranked Georgia last week, falling 13-12 and lamenting numerous missed opportunities. We'd expect a letdown against any SEC opponent but will hold off while Wildcats (19.5) host MAC opponent Ohio. Moreover, we'd normally be looking to fade Northern Illinois coming off its monumental upset of Notre Dame, but the Huskies (-14) have had two weeks to celebrate and move forward before hosting a marginal Buffalo Club.
Still, we have identified a couple favorable situational plays for Week 4 and they are listed below.Â
