2024 College football betting strategy: Proven expert shares top situational spots for Week 3

SportsLine college football analyst Josh Nagel has revealed his top spot play for Week 3 of the 2024 college football season

Last week, our college football situational play worked out with Georgia Southern (+1) toppling Nevada 20-17 in an ugly game full of self-destructive plays by both clubs.

It was far from a masterpiece, but still a win and we scalped some serious value from a line that opened Georgia Southern -3 or higher in some markets. Bettors appeared to overreact a little to Nevada's above-expectation performances in the first two weeks.

However, we passed on one juicy situational spot as Northern Illinois (+28.5) pulled a massive 16-14 outright win over No. 5-ranked Notre Dame. We figured the Irish could be due for a letdown following their impressive road win over Texas A&M but questioned whether an upper-tier MAC club could hang for all four quarters against a Notre Dame club that rated to have major advantages in physicality and depth. Instead, the Huskies pulled off an historic upset that might hold up as the biggest point-spread upset this season.

With that, situational spots based on motivational and logistical circumstances will become more evident and higher in volume as the season progresses. We have identified such a play for Week 3, which can be seen below.
