2023 Fantasy Football rookie rankings: Ranking the top first-year RBs for redraft and dynasty formats
There have been some incredible running back prospects to come out of the NFL Draft in recent years. The 2022 class featured Breece Hall and Kenneth Walker at the top end but also delivered awesome late-round values in Dameon Pierce, Tyler Allgeier, and Isiah Pacheco. The 2021 class brought us Travis Etienne, Javonte Williams, Najee Harris, and Rhamondre Stevenson, while 2020's class was highlighted by Jonathan Taylor, J.K. Dobbins, and D'Andre Swift.
None of the awesome draft classes have boasted the type of top-end RB talent that the 2023 NFL Draft class does. Texas RB Bijan Robinson was the consensus RB1 and expected to be selected early in Round 1, so it wasn't much of a surprise when the Atlanta Falcons used the eighth overall pick on him. The real surprise came in the form of Detroit's 12th overall pick being used on Jamhyr Gibbs out of Alabama. The last time that two running backs were selected inside of the top-12 overall was 2017 (Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey), and with that type of draft capital now backing up Gibbs' otherworldly analytical profile as a collegiate pass-catcher, a Christian McCaffrey-like outcome is now within his range of outcomes at the NFL level.
Gibbs and Robinson are unquestionably the top two RB prospects from the 2023 class, but there are many other backs who could make some noise as rookies.
