2023 Fantasy Football rookie rankings: Ranking the top first-year QBs for redraft and dynasty formats

Fantasy expert Jacob Gibbs provides an in-depth analytical breakdown for the exciting 2023 rookie class of QBs.

The 2022 NFL Draft gifted the Fantasy football space with top-flight talents like Garrett Wilson, Drake London, and Chris Olave at the WR position, while Breece Hall looked like a generational talent before tearing his ACL. Those top three wideouts were far from the only rookie standouts, as the 2022 rookie class proved to be one of the deepest group of first-year pass-catchers that we've seen in some time.

The 2022 rookie class was awesome for Fantasy purposes, but the quarterbacks from that class were without a doubt a disappointment. Seventh-round pick Brock Purdy may have been the best rookie QB in his class, as Kenny Pickett threw for only seven touchdowns and Malik Willis floundered when forced into action. Desmond Ridder and Sam Howell are lined up to start in Year 2 and could redeem the 2022 class after an underwhelming debut, but through one season, the Class of 2022 is looking particularly weak at the QB position.

The 2023 draft class is here to balance things out -- the rookie wide receiver group is not as strong on paper as past classes, but the quarterbacks could prove to be the best group of rookies that we've had at the position since an insanely stacked 2020 QB class.

For Fantasy purposes, any discussion about the 2023 QB class has to start with Anthony Richardson out of Florida. The Indianapolis Colts finally found their way out of QB purgatory and made Richardson the fourth overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. A "Madden-created-player" athlete with former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen designing his offense, Richardson could offer Fantasy-breaking rushing ability immediately. He also brings incredible arm talent and has a fun young group of pass-catchers at his disposal.

Could Richardson put up Justin Fields-level Fantasy production right away? His rushing ability makes Richardson the clear top rookie quarterback for season-long Fantasy purposes, but how does his long-term outlook compare to that of the first- and second-overall picks, Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud? And should we expect any quarterbacks beyond the top three to contribute Fantasy relevancy at any point?
