2023 college football Week 0 odds, lines: Legendary Vegas expert reveals picks, predictions
The 2023 college football season gets underway Saturday, Aug. 26 with an abbreviated seven-game Week 0 slate. Most of the nation kicks off over Labor Day weekend, but college football bettors will be looking at these Week 0 games from every angle trying to hit some early-season wins.Â
Among the notable Week 0 college football odds via the SportsLine consensus, Notre Dame is -20.5 against Navy, USC is -31 against San Jose State and Vanderbilt is -17.5 against Hawaii (see more college football lines right here).Â
Before making any Week 0 college football bets, be sure to see what legendary college football handicapper Bruce Marshall has to say.Â
For years Vegas-based Marshall was synonymous with The Gold Sheet, the famed sports betting newsletter. With a background in play-by-play work and sports information while in college, Bruce joined TGS in 1981 when hired by the legendary Mort Olshan and served as executive editor for many years. Marshall now supplies his unique and colorful brand of football and basketball analysis to SportsLine members.Â
An in-demand guest on numerous sports talk radio and TV shows across the country, Bruce's vast array of editorial work has been featured in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the New York Post and many other outlets. He has won various handicapping titles and also is working on several book projects.
Now he's studied the Week 0 college football schedule and used his Tech Corner technique to break down every matchup.
One thing we can tell you for Week 0: Marshall likes Hawaii (+17.5) to stay within the spread at Vanderbilt in a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday.Â
"The Commodores rolled in this one 63-10 last August in Timmy Chang's Hawaii debut," Marshall said. "But the Rainbow Warriors rallied down stretch last season and covered seven of last eight, including three of last four on mainland. Hawaii Under is 9-4 in Chang's debut season, 15-8 Under since early 2021. Vandy is 0-5 vs. spread as non-conference host for Clark Lea (since 2021), and 4-7 ATS last season after Hawaii opener. Tech edge -- slight to Hawaii, based on team trends."
Marshall has evaluated every other matchup and he's found an alarming trend that leads to an edge for one of the week's biggest underdogs! You ABSOLUTELY need to see who it is before making any college football picks.Â
