2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic odds, picks: PGA Tour best bets, top sleepers, favorites to avoid from golf insider

Patrick McDonald has been digging into this week's PGA Tour field and has locked in his best bets for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, which tees off Thursday at Detroit Golf Club

Reigning FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay and 3M Open winner Tony Finau highlight the PGA Tour field for the 2022 Rocket Mortgage, which tees off Thursday. Australian Cam Davis also will be on hand to defend his championship at Detroit Golf Club, a Donald Ross design that yields impressively low scores.

Cantlay is the 10-1 favorite in the latest 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic odds from Caesars Sportsbook, with Finau right behind at 12-1. Two of the past three Rocket Mortgage champions have been first-time winners, and young stars like Will Zalatoris (14-1) and Cameron Young (16-1) are among those who could continue that trend, while Davis is priced at 28-1.

Before you lock in any 2022 Rocket Mortgagae Classic picks, be sure to see the Rocket Mortgage Classic 2022 predictions and best bets from golf insider Patrick McDonald.

After spending time at FanSided and NBC Sports EDGE, McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf writer in the spring of 2022. Now covering the sport from a broader perspective, McDonald still likes to dip his toes into the betting pools on a weekly basis on the PGA Tour.

He takes a measured approach to his outright selections and is up more than 55 units on those plays in 2022, having hit Cameron Smith (22-1) at the Tournament of Champions, Hudson Swafford (250-1) at The American Express, Joaquin Niemann (70-1) at the Genesis Invitational and Justin Thomas (66-1) live at the PGA Championship.

For last week's 3M Open, McDonald nailed both of his prop plays, taking Cam Davis as the top Australian finisher (+140) and Sahith Theegala to miss the cut (+275). He is up more than 11 units on his PGA Tour props.

Now, McDonald has studied the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic field and locked in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. We can tell you McDonald is fading Davis, even though he is the defending champion and among the favorites. Before last year, he hadn't made a cut in two previous visits to Detroit. His short game isn't strong enough to contend there again, and McDonald says this number is way too short.

Instead, McDonald is targeting a longshot who come in at MASSIVE odds of well over 70-1! This golfer smashes the ball off the tee, and his power game should play well at Detroit Golf Club. This unheralded player could pull off a STUNNING result, and you could cash in HUGE if he comes through! You ABSOLUTELY need to see who it is before locking in any picks of your own!

So which 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic players should you target or avoid? And which overlooked player is a MUST-BACK? ...
