2022 BMW Championship odds, picks: PGA Tour best bets, top sleepers, favorites to avoid from golf insider
The top 70 PGA Tour golfers head to Wilmington Country Club this week for the second round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs at the 2022 BMW Championship. The course in Wilmington, Del. has never hosted a PGA event, but the Robert Trent Jones Sr. design will present a variety of challenges. Will Zalatoris comes in with the FedEx Cup lead after getting his first PGA Tour victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is just 124 points back, and Cameron Smith, Sam Burns and Tony Finau round out the top five. Smith withdrew on Monday, citing a hip injury. Reigning BMW and FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay is seventh, and Rory McIlroy (ninth), Justin Thomas (10th) and Jon Rahm (14th) are among the many other stars lurking behind. Â Â
McIlroy is the 10-1 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook's latest BMW Championship odds, with Rahm just behind at 12-1. Many golfers are bunched up among the favorites, with several at 14-1 -- Cantlay, Scheffler, Thomas and  Zalatoris. Finau and U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick are listed at 16-1 in the BMW Championship 2022 field.Â
Before you lock in any 2022 BMW Championship picks, be sure you check out the BMW Championship 2022 predictions and best bets from golf insider Patrick McDonald.
After spending time at FanSided and NBC Sports EDGE, McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf writer in the spring of 2022. Now covering the sport from a broader perspective, McDonald still likes to dip his toes into the betting pools on a weekly basis on the PGA Tour.Â
He takes a measured approach to his outright selections and is up 47 units on those plays in 2022, having hit Cameron Smith (22-1) at the Tournament of Champions, Hudson Swafford (250-1) at The American Express, Joaquin Niemann (70-1) at the Genesis Invitational and Justin Thomas (66-1) live at the PGA Championship.
At last week's FedEx St. Jude Championship, McDonald picked Zalatoris over Finau in a head-to-head matchup. And while Finau continued his stellar play, Zalatoris was better, winning the tournament while Finau tied for fifth. The expert also touted Joaquin Niemann, who was priced at 60-1 and tied for 13th.Â
McDonald JUST missed on his longshot play at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, with 80-1 shot Taylor Pendrith battling for the lead all week until winner Finau's dominant Sunday. He also pegged Pendrith as the first-round leader at 70-1, and the Canadian shared that honor with Finau.
Now, McDonald has studied the 2022 BMW Championship field and locked in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. SHOCKINGLY, McDonald is fading Joohyung "Tom" Kim (25-1), who has been on a tear and just won the Wyndham Championship two weeks ago. This is certainly not the Wyndham, and the level of competition here will derail the young star, the expert predicts.Â
Instead, McDonald is targeting a MASSIVE longshot who come in at more than 40-1 odds! This golfer has proven to be one of the best ball-strikers in the world. McDonald knows if he can get his putter going, this player can pull off a STUNNING result, and anyone who backs him would cash in HUGE! You ABSOLUTELY need to see who it is before locking in any picks of your own!
So which 2022 BMW Championship players should you target or avoid? And which massive longshot is a MUST-BACK? ... Join SportsLine right now to see Patrick McDonald's top picks for the 2022 BMW Championship, all from the expert who is up more than 47 units on outright plays in 2022, and find out!
