Different faces on the sidelines this season, with Jim Harbaugh no longer at Michigan after his move to the NFL Chargers, and Jeff Tedford stepping down once again for health reasons at Fresno. That's not all of the change at Ann Arbor, as much of the Wolverines' national title offense, including key cogs QB JJ McCarthy and RB Blake Corum, have graduated, with plenty of new faces for first-year HC Sherrone Moore. Meanwhile, interim Bulldogs HC Tim Skipper has most of his weapons back offensively including versatile QB Mikey Keene, the former UCF transfer who passed for nearly 3000 yards in 2023. With experience at every level on defense, FSU could very well hold its own against the new Michigan offense. Play Fresno State
My suspicion is that Michigan will use this game to help determine its QB battle. I expect Alex Orji to start, but Davis Warren will play too, and because of this, I don't know that we see the Wolverines slow down. Plus, how many points can Fresno score on this D?
Michigan's has a defensive line that very few opponents on its schedule will be able to block, and I think that strength will set a high floor for what the Wolverines can accomplish this year. As the offense figures out its QB situation the expectation will be a heavy dose of the run game, keeping the clock moving and scores lower. Also with Texas coming up in Week 2, Michigan might prefer a game with as few possessions as possible.
