It's not crazy to say this could be both team's best chance at a win in 2021, but I'm siding with the Miners. New Mexico State went 1-1 in the spring with a seven-point win over Dixie State and a 26-point loss to something called Tarleton State. I don't think UTEP is going to have a great season, but the Miners are a lot better than this Aggies squad will be.
The Aggies played two games this spring, including a loss to Tarleton State. Those are the only two games that they’ve played since 2019. On the other side, the Miners return all 11 starters off of an offense that put up 5.2 yards per play last season. That’s not exactly an eye-popping YPP, but it’ll certainly improve due to continuity and experience. Don’t get me wrong, UTEP won’t be a juggernaut … and likely won’t sniff bowl eligibility this season. But when it comes to this matchup, it is far and away the easy play against a team that is literally an afterthought in college football.
