This looks like a modest Fairfield unit, and I will be reluctant to back the Stags (5-8) until further notice. Of the many transfers, only ex-Southern Utah guard Prophet Johnson (12.0 ppg) is scoring in double digits, and Fairfield's offensive numbers (41.4% field-goal percentage and 32.2% on 3-pointers) don't inspire much confidence. Meanwhile, evidence is mounting that Merrimack might be a serious MAAC contender, holding its own in a couple of narrow losses at Stanford and Saint Mary's in a recent road trip to the Bay Area and covering five of the last six. The Warriors, already 2-0 in MAAC action, also boast of one of the top players in the conference in sophomore guard Adam Clark (20.1 ppg). Play Merrimack.
