Carson Wentz projections 2022: Fantasy stats, betting odds, Washington Commanders player profile, season outlook, simulations
It's amazing how one freak injury can change the course of a player's entire career. In 2017, Wentz was three games away from being a clear MVP choice for the eventual Super Bowl-champion Eagles. Then a torn ACL on a touchdown run vs. the Rams derailed his 2017-18 season, Nick Foles took over and won Super Bowl MVP, and the former second overall pick hasn't been the same since.
While Wentz wasn't bad in Indianapolis last season, posting 27 touchdown passes to only seven interceptions, a Week 18 Colts meltdown against a bad Jacksonville team that cost the team a playoff spot was enough to get him shipped to the Commanders in the offseason.
Washington has a nice supporting cast around its new quarterback. Antonio Gibson is a fine young two-down running back, J.D. McKissic is one of the better receiving threats out of the backfield in the league, and the receiving corps is above-average. Terry McLaurin and Logan Thomas are top-15 talents at their respective positions, Jahan Dotson was a 2022 first round pick, and Curtis Samuel is an effective slot receiver. A lack of talent around him won't be an issue for Wentz.
While the new Commanders' QB isn't fantasy starter-worthy in standard leagues, he should be rostered as a backup with the hope of a career renaissance on Ron Rivera's squad. A 30 TD pass season isn't entirely unfathomable with his ceiling being that of a high end QB2 in 2022.
