The Pirates, borrowing a phrase from Hubert Humphrey, would have been "pleased as punch" for the Marlins to stick around a few more days after sweeping Miami earlier in the week. Unfortunately, the Marlins were replaced by the Royals, who jumped on Luis Ortiz in the first inning and rolled to an 11-3 win Friday night. Kansas City has made considerable ground vs. sub -.500 teams this season and have parlayed that into a likely playoff appearance. Michael Wacha has been one of the pleasant surprises of the season in the Royals rotation and is off perhaps his best effort of the season when firing seven shutout innings at the Twins while only allowing four hits this past Sunday.
