Today's sports betting picks: Yankees to halt slide against Cardinals, plus more MLB, UFC and soccer best bets for Saturday
Host Allan Bell is joined by sports betting experts Micah Roberts, Jon "Buckets" Eimer and Andrew Gombas on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball, MMA and soccer for Saturday, August 6.
The crew kicks things off with the storylines, and Andrew breaks down what he sees as a "sneaky good"Â UFC Fight Night card. It starts at 10 p.m. ET in Las Vegas, and the main event features Jamahal Hill against Thiago Santos. Hill is 5-1, with his only loss coming via submission, and he faces a tough test that could put up him "one step closer to a title shot." Gombas also expects the co-main event between Geoff Neal and Vicente Luque to be a thrilling one. "That fight's gonna be a guaranteed banger," Andrew says. "I expect a ton of punches to land on both sides."
Allan then has an MLB pick as the SportsLine Play of the Day, and it is the Dodgers -1.5 (-130) at home against the Padres (9:10 p.m. ET). The SportsLine Projection Model has the Dodgers -160 on the moneyline with an "A" grade for value, but the show pick is Los Angeles on the run line. Either play should pay, with left-hander Andrew Heaney (0.77 ERA) on the mound for L.A. Â Â
Micah also has an MLB pick, and he is going with the Yankees -102 against the Cardinals (7:15 p.m. ET). New York has lost three in a row for the third time this year. The first two times, the streak ended there. Jordan Montgomery will start for the Cards after being traded from the Yankees, and Roberts expects him to get hit hard and exit early. "This is a spot I think the Yankees have to step up," he says. Â
Gombas has two plays from the UFC card, and his first is from the Ariane Lipski vs. Priscila Cachoeira women's flyweight bout on the main card. Andrew is backing Lipski -170, as Cachoeira likes to take the fight to her opponent and takes a lot of shots. "I think that's bad news for her her," Gombas says. Lipiski is a better all-around fighter and has a lot of power for this weight class. "I think this line is short," the expert says. Â Â
Gombas also likes Mayra Bueno Silva +105 over Stephanie Egger in a women's bantamweight preliminary fight. Egger needs to get close for her judo-style takedowns, and she will struggle to do that. Bueno Silva should see "easy pickings" when they are on their feet.
Buckets is all over the first major soccer weekend of the new season and has three plays. His first is from the Dutch Eridivisie, and he took Ajax Team Total Over 2.5 goals (-135) against Fortuna Sittard in a match that started just after the show.
Eimer also is taking Both Teams to Score (-130) in the Besiktas vs. Kayserispor matchup in the Turkish Super Ligue at 2:45 p.m. ET. Both teams have scored in the teams' past five matchups. "We're not expecting anything different here this afternoon," Eimer says.
In the French Ligue 1, Buckets is backing Paris Saint-Germain to go Over 2.5 goals on its Team Total (-130) against Clermont Foot 63 (3 p.m. ET). PSG will be without injured superstar Kylian Mbappe, but "this is a team with extremely high standards," Eimer says. In their two meetings last year, PSG won by five and four goals, so Buckets expects at least a three-goal margin this time.
