Super Bowl 55 Chiefs vs. Bucs odds, props, trends: Betting action shifts yardage totals down for Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, up for Patrick Mahomes

Bettors on Super Bowl 55 at William Hill Sportsbook are pessimistic regarding yardage totals for three Kansas City skill position players but optimistic on Patrick Mahomes.

The Kansas City Chiefs led the NFL in total offense by a wide margin this season at 415.8 yards per game, the only club above 400 yards. Despite that, bettors at William Hill Sportsbook have wagered Under on the yardage totals of Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, tight end Travis Kelce and receiver Tyreek Hill to the point where all three totals have dropped considerably for Sunday's Super Bowl 55 matchup vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On the flip side, the passing yardage total for Patrick Mahomes has risen quite a bit. Kansas City remains a 3-point favorite.

William Hill opened the rookie Edwards-Helaire at Over/Under 45.5 rushing yards but he's way down to 29.5 with both options at -115. The last pick of the 2020 first round of the draft, CEH had a good first year but suffered a fairly serious injury in Week 15. He didn't return until the AFC title game vs. Buffalo and managed only seven yards on six carries while Darrel Williams got 13 carries and totaled 52 yards. He's set at Over/Under 27.5 yards rushing.

Kelce set the NFL single-season receiving yardage total for a tight end with 1,416 in 15 games and has added 227 in the playoffs. Kelce opened at 105.5 receiving yards but is down to 96.5. Hill had 1,276 yards receiving this season and 282 in the playoffs. He opened at 102.5 yards but has dropped to 93.5.

"If (bettors) do think the Bucs are going to shorten the game, they might as well save themselves some legwork and just bet Tampa +3 if they think that's the way the game is going to play out," said Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill US, on the totals dropping for Kelce and Hill. "Maybe it's because since these two played earlier in the year, the Bucs will have a better idea of how to stop them. But it's the same script every year, the sharps will bet 'no' and under and the public will bet 'yes' and over, and we'll need the sharp side for a small mountain of money."

In Week 12 when the Chiefs won 27-24 in Tampa, Hill had 269 yards receiving (most of that in the first quarter when he had one of the best quarters in NFL history), Kelce had 72 and Edwards-Helaire had 37 yards rushing on 11 carries. Mahomes threw for a season-high 462 yards.

Mahomes' passing total for Super Bowl 55 opened at 315.5 yards but is currently at 335.5. His rushing yardage total, perhaps in part due to his injured toe, has dropped from 30.5 to 18.5.

"With Mahomes rushing, there's no question they're thinking that he's still inhibited in some way. But last game, he was jumping around and feeling pretty lively. Fast-forward two weeks later and he's only going to be two weeks fresher. I think Tampa will get pressure on him which will force him out, which means he could get (18.5) yards standing on his head," Bogdanovich said.
