NFL Week 2: Cleveland Browns lose more depth at offensive tackle with injury to Kendall Lamm

Week 1 was brutal for the Browns and a position of concern is now even weaker.

The Cleveland Browns entered Week 1 with lofty expectations but, after 60 minutes of football, Freddie Kitchens and company were left scrambling with an 0-1 record and a negative stigma. While there was plenty of blame to go around, Cleveland's offensive line struggled mightily in the opener and that included starting left tackle Greg Robinson earning an ejection in the first half. His replacement, offensive tackle Kendall Lamm, stepped in admirably but he suffered an injury of his own that will keep him on the sideline for Week 2 and beyond.

"We have not got a definitive length of time or anything like that on Kendall yet," Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens said on Sunday after Lamm was forced to the sideline early. "Unless we got it from the meeting to this press conference, we have not yet."

On Tuesday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal brought word from Kitchens that Lamm "is going to be out a little bit." It remains to be seen as to whether the swing tackle will miss only a couple of days or multiple weeks, but Lamm's knee is an issue at the moment and that weakens Cleveland's depth at a critical position.

There was plenty of optimism about the Browns' roster before the 2019 season but even the most ardent supporter would note that the offensive line was not expected to be an overwhelming strength. Robinson is talented, yet unproven as a key piece, and Cleveland's roster depth doesn't translate to protecting quarterback Baker Mayfield. There is every reason to believe Mayfield, Nick Chubb, Odell Beckham and company will be able to right the ship offensively but, if there are further issues up front, it becomes an uphill battle. That makes the offensive tackle situation one to closely monitor in the coming days.
