NFL odds: Where will former Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston sign?

Former Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston remains without a team. Which might sign him?

Anyone in the market for a former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback who led his school to a national championship and was the No. 1 overall pick in the draft? Sounds like a pretty strong resume, but NFL teams aren't exactly beating down Jameis Winston's door to sign him. Winston remains without an employer in the wake of the Tampa Bay Bucs signing Tom Brady.

While there's no questioning that Winston has a high ceiling after leading the NFL in passing yards last season with 5,109, he's also a turnover-machine and last year was the first quarterback in league history to throw for 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in the same season.

SportsLine NFL oddsmakers favor Winston to remain in the Sunshine State, though, with the Miami Dolphins as favorites to sign him. Will the Dolphins select a quarterback early in the 2020 draft? Most likely yes, and in fact the Dolphins are -170 favorites at William Hill sportsbook to be where Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa ends up.

However, Tua wasn't exactly the picture of health in college and is coming off a major hip procedure. Perhaps the Fins could sign Winston to let Tua sit and watch for a year. Miami does have Ryan Fitzpatrick – who formerly competed with Winston for Tampa Bay's starting job – and Josh Rosen as quarterbacks on the roster.

The Washington Redskins in theory may take a flier on Winston to push 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins, who looked very raw last year. The New England Patriots just signed Brian Hoyer, but does that mean they are out of the running for Winston? Where Cam Newton and Andy Dalton end up also obviously will affect where Winston lands.

The Pittsburgh Steelers might make great sense as insurance for Ben Roethlisberger. Things did not go well for the most part when Big Ben went down last year and Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges were under center.

How about New Orleans as the backup to Drew Brees? The Los Angeles Chargers appear ready to move forward with Tyrod Taylor this year in the wake of losing out on Brady, but Taylor's current backup is Easton Stick. Winston isn't better than him?

Could be that Winston has to wait until after the draft to find a new home.
