Latest from Vegas: Westgate LV SuperBook dreading high-scoring Super Bowl
The biggest bet the famed Westgate LV SuperBook has taken on Super Bowl 54 is $110,00 on the Over, but that's not why book directors are dreading a high-scoring game.
Props account for 65 percent of the handle. The vast majority of prop bets would cash if the Chiefs and 49ers light up the scoreboard.
"If this game is like 50-45, we're going to get killed," John Murray, director of race and sports operations, told SportsLine about three hours before kickoff. "If it's like 20-17, we're going to look like geniuses."
The SuperBook opened the total at 51.5 and it rose all the way to 54.5 until professional bettors hammered the Under.
"We have big bets from respected players on the Under, but we still want the Under," Murray said. "The game going Over would kill us."
Westgate, William Hill, MGM Mirage and many others were dealing 53.5 as of 4:15 p.m. ET. At William Hill, 71 percent of the money is on the Over. It's the same story at FanDuel Sportsbook, with over 70 percent of the action going Over.
Two props in particular would crush the SuperBook, Murray said.
"Everyone is betting Patrick Mahomes to score a touchdown [rushing] and if Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt throws a pass, we'll get killed," Murray said. "That's 12-1."
As for the side, Murray said, "we want San Francisco (+1.5) to win but the bigger thing is we want the game to be boring."
In general, "the sharp guys seem to like the 49ers and the public is all over the Chiefs," Murray added. "But the sharp guys liked the Rams last year and the public was all over New England."
