Drew Brees injures hand against Rams, questionable to return
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been the face of the franchise since coming over from the then San Diego Chargers prior to the 2006 season and the now 40-year-old is still operating at a high level. However, the Saints were dealt a potentially crushing blow on Sunday when Brees hit his hand on the hand of Rams defensive tackle Drew Brees while attempting to throw a pass.
Brees was noticeably shaken by the contact and had to be removed from the game and replaced by Saints backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. He's now been listed as questionable to return according to the official broadcast of the game.
The Saints training staff has wrapped Brees' hand and he's been watching from the bench where he's looked distraught. Brees was 3-for-5 for 38 yards with an interception prior to his departure. Bridgewater has since gone 3-for-4 for 15 yards in his place.
Los Angeles currently leads the game 3-0 thanks to a 24-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein in the first quarter. Brees continues to be evaluated but he hasn't been seen with his helmet at any point since being attended to by the training staff.
Brees has missed just three games in his career with the Saints and two of those missed games were team decisions to rest him with New Orleans' playoff position locked in. The Saints were just one missed pass interference call away from making it to the Super Bowl last season.
