Coronavirus: Yankees-Phillies series opener joins Orioles-Marlins as postponed games Monday

The NBA and NHL have a chance to succeed during a coronavirus pandemic with their season restarts because they have put all their teams in a "bubble." It was always going to be a major challenge for Major League Baseball because that's simply not possible in that sport. Here's hoping July 27 isn't the day the sport died this year but now two games Monday have been canceled/postponed due to the virus: Orioles-Marlins and Yankees-Phillies.

Reportedly, 14 members of the Marlins have tested positive for COVID-19, and the entire team remains in Philadelphia, where the Marlins won two of three over the weekend. Probably not a huge shock then that any Phillies game was going to be called off too considering they came in contact with so many of the Marlins players over the weekend. Philadelphia was set to host the Yankees in the first of a two-game set on Monday. We obviously don't want to speculate, but it's hard to imagine Tuesday's Orioles-Marlins or Yankees-Phillies games are played, either.

While the Phillies had thoroughly sanitized the visiting clubhouse and surrounding areas, MLB and the team decided not to bring another team into that clubhouse.

ESPN's Karl Ravech tweeted this: "The Phillies organization becomes a hugely important factor now in where things go from here. Test results on personnel likely will be known this evening. I believe other games scheduled for tonight will be played."

It's going to be near impossible to make these games up, either, because MLB jammed the 60-game regular-season schedule into just 66 days. There are going to have to be double-headers.
