Week 9 NFL power ratings: How to value all 32 teams, including Vikings without Kirk Cousins, for ATS picks

Get the edge over the sportsbooks in Week 9 and beyond by developing a power rating system to stay ahead of the lines

We're almost at the midway point of the season, and it's starting to feel like we might not make it to the playoffs with any starting QBs intact. Kirk Cousins, Matthew Stafford, Kenny Pickett, Desmond Ridder and Tyrod Taylor didn't make it through four quarters on Sunday, with Cousins now ruled out for the season. Including Taylor, six backup QBs started this week, and even if players like Daniel Jones, Deshaun Watson and Kyler Murray are able to return this week, that still leaves a lot of tough spread decisions for bettors in Week 9.

Do you back a banged-up Pickett or his backup Mitchell Trubisky laying points on Thursday, or go with rookie Will Levis coming off a surprisingly good debut but now having to try and replicate that performance in the tough environment of Pittsburgh? How do you adjust Atlanta depending on whether Ridder or Taylor Heinicke starts, considering they're up against a Minnesota team in dire straights at QB? Is the Stafford injury enough to back the Packers laying points when the offense has struggled to score points all year? Will Jones make it back to save us from a Jimmy Garoppolo vs. Tommy DeVito matchup? The Cardinals have already said Joshua Dobbs won't start in Week 9, so will Cleveland-Arizona give us a Deshaun Watson vs. Kyler Murray matchup? Or will we have to figure out whether to lay a bunch of points with P.J. Walker against Clayton Tune?

It's a lot to unpack, but that's why we have the power ratings below to project where the line should be each week. And that's also why it's important to have an idea of how much each starting QB is worth to the line, like we do in Mike Tierney's weekly QB Power Rankings, so that we've already considered every potential QB change and can react to line moves accordingly. This week's power ratings account for the following QB situations:

    • Bears: Tyson Bagent starting
    • Bengals: Adjusted back to full rating with Joe Burrow 100%
    • Browns: Deshaun Watson starting
    • Cardinals: Clayton Tune starting
    • Falcons: Desmond Ridder starting
    • Giants: Daniel Jones starting
    • Rams: Matthew Stafford 50%, Brett Rypien 50%
    • Steelers: Mitchell Trubisky starting
    • Titans: Will Levis starting
    • Vikings: Jaren Hall starting
