Wednesday in MLB: Will White Sox stay red-hot at home?
Two starters who have struggled despite their clubs' otherwise solid starts face each other Wednesday when the White Sox host the Red Sox.
Boston's Clay Buchholz (0-3, 6.51 ERA) has endured a continuation of what has become a tradition of early-season misery.
He has yet to register a win while giving up at least five earned runs in four of his five starts, including five runs and four walks in a 5-3 home loss to the Braves in his last outing.
Buchholz is 14-16 with an ERA of 4.91 in 39 career April starts, which includes a 1-3 mark with a 5.76 ERA last season.
"I wouldn't ever go on a bad streak if I knew what I had to do not to go on them," he said. "I think it just happens sometimes. The team is going good and everybody is throwing the ball well, and it's falling on me right now."
Buchholz is 2-3 with a 4.25 ERA in eight career starts against the White Sox, who have won three straight after taking the series opener 4-1 Tuesday.
Chicago starter Carlos Rodon (1-3, 4.33 ERA) has had his own problems, as he gave up six runs on eight hits in a 6-3 loss to the Orioles in his last outing.
Rodon is 0-2 in his last three starts with a 7.07 ERA.
Oddsmakers give Chicago a slight edge, as the White Sox are favored in the -110 range at most outlets. Get SportsLine's pick by clicking here.
