Tuesday, July 25 MLB odds, props, trends: Bettors expecting dominant effort from Mariners' George Kirby vs. Twins
Usually whenever the Angels are in action, a hitting prop on Shohei Ohtani is among the five most-wagered for that MLB slate at DraftKings. But that is not the case tonight as of this writing with the Angels visiting Detroit and Ohtani expected to start at DH as usual. The five most-wagered MLB props Tuesday are all on starting pitchers, and the two most popular are on Seattle's George Kirby at the Twins, who are short favorites at Caesars Sportsbook.
Kirby was knocked around two starts ago against a poor Detroit offense, but that apparently was a fluke as he faced these Twins last Thursday in Seattle and had arguably the start of his young career. The right-hander fired seven shutout innings with four hits allowed, 10 strikeouts (tied career high) and zero walks. Only one Twins base-runner advanced past first base with Kirby on the mound. It was the fourth time this season that Kirby followed a start when he allowed four earned runs or more by allowing one earned run or less.
"He loves the competition," Seattle manager Scott Servais said. "I think that's what sticks out more than anything else. When you watch him pitch, he just loves the, 'Bring it on. I will give you my best effort.' And he usually ends up on the right side of things."
Kirby Over 17.5 outs recorded at -140 and Under 1.5 walks at -255 are the two most popular props at DK. The 25-year-old Kirby has some of the best control in the majors with only 11 walks in his 119.2 innings. Kirby last walked at least two batters on July 1 vs. Tampa Bay and that's the only time he has done so all season, hence the huge price.
As for outs recorded, Kirby has failed to go at least six innings deep (18 outs) just four times this year, most recently on July 15 vs. Detroit when he lasted five. Kirby averages about 6.5 innings pitched on the road this year and has only six walks in nine starts.
No Twins batters have great splits against him, and Kirby won't need to deal with former All-Star outfielder Byron Buxton, who is on paternity leave. The Twins are an MLB-best 10-2 since the break and rallied for a 4-3 win over Seattle in 10 innings on Monday. The most-wagered prop Monday was Twins pitcher Kenta Maeda Over 5.5 Ks, and he had eight so, the book took a hit.
Tonight's other popular MLB player props at DraftKings:
Tigers' Eduardo Rodriguez Over 5.5 strikeouts (-160) vs. Angels: E-Rod hasn't faced Los Angeles this year but has struck out more than five in five straight outings.
Reds' Andrew Abbott Over 17.5 outs (-145) at Brewers: The rookie has faced the Brewers three times and gotten at least 18 outs in two.
Guardians' Aaron Civale Under 2.5 earned runs allowed (-130) vs. Royals: Civale threw seven shutout innings on July 7 vs. Kansas City.
