Tom Brady signs with Bucs: Brady has dominated NFC South foes in career
The NFC South might be the NFL's most interesting division in 2020 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers adding Tom Brady and the Carolina Panthers signing Teddy Bridgewater. The Atlanta Falcons have former MVP Matt Ryan under center, and the New Orleans Saints have a guy at quarterback by the name of Drew Brees. That's quite a quartet.
Now, it's somewhat of an apples vs. oranges comparison because all of Brady's Patriots teams were very good and many players have changed on teams over the years, but he has mostly dominated NFC South opponents in his Hall of Fame career -- and obviously, the Bucs will play the Panthers, Falcons and Saints twice each in the 2020 regular season.
Note that below overall Brady numbers vs. the NFC South are only since 2002, when that division came into existence. However, his individual numbers vs. Atlanta, Carolina and New Orleans go back to 2001 as the Patriots played those three that year. Also, none of the numbers include Super Bowl wins by the Patriots over the Panthers following the 2003 season and over the Falcons following the 2016 campaign – but it adds to Brady's NFC South dominance.
Overall, Brady is 12-4 straight up vs. NFC South foes (including Bucs) in the regular season – Brady's AFC East Patriots played the NFC South every four years. Brady has completed 66 percent of his passes for 4,526 yards, 29 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a rating of 98.6. Brady last faced the NFC South in 2017 and New England beat Atlanta, Tampa Bay and New Orleans but was upset at home by Carolina (3-1 ATS mark for Pats in the four).
In regular-season action, Brady is 5-0 straight up and against the spread in his career vs. Atlanta. He is 2-3 SU and ATS vs. Carolina and 4-1 SU & ATS against New Orleans.
For what it's worth, Brady was 4-0 SU & ATS against the Buccaneers. TB12 played at his new home of Raymond James Stadium on Oct. 5, 2017 (19-14 Patriots win). The Patriots were the "road" team vs. the Bucs on Oct. 25, 2009, and won 35-7 – but that was in London. Of course, Raymond James Stadium hosts Super Bowl 55 next February, when the Bucs look to make history.
