Packers, Falcons Make NFL History by Hitting Largest Playoff Total Ever
The Atlanta Falcons advanced to Super Bowl LI on Sunday afternoon by defeating the Green Bay Packers 44-21.
In the process, the Falcons and Packers made history -- they went Over 60, the largest post-season Over-Under in the modern era.
The New England-Denver total during the 2013-14 playoffs closed at 57. In Week 13 of the 2014-15 regular season, BookMaker posted a total of 61 in a game between the Packers and Patriots.
The first time the Packers and Falcons met this season, perhaps not coincidentally, there were also 65 points scored.
The Under in Sunday's game looked like a lock to hit. The Packers went missed field goal, fumble, punt, interception, and halftime on their first five possessions and were scoreless at intermission.
In the second half, Green Bay lit up the scoreboard, and a one-yard TD to tight end Jared Cook with 6:43 left officially pushed the total past 60. The ensuing two-point conversion attempt, a run by Christine Michael, failed.
Cook's TD marked the final points of the game.
The NFC Championship game total opened at 59.5, but was quickly bet up to 60.5. By Sunday, it stood at 61 before falling back to 60, where it closed.
The Falcons easily covered as a six-point favorite.
