Packers 2023 NFL postseason odds: Green Bay now underdog to make playoffs despite holding NFC's final wild card spot

Green Bay's playoff hopes took a big hit on Monday night.

The Green Bay Packers' three-game winning streak ended in a walkoff 24-22 loss at the resurgent New York Giants on Monday night, with Green Bay's inability to stop the run rearing its head yet again. The Packers fell to 6-7 but still hold the NFC's final wild card spot entering Week 15. However, while the Packers were favored to be playoff team entering Monday, they are now +100 underdogs at DraftKings with the team missing the postseason at -130.

Green Bay didn't deserve to win Monday as it turned the ball over twice on offense and once on special teams, and the defense allowed 209 yards rushing toa fairly one-dimensional offense. Green Bay allowed undrafted rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito to lead a game-winning drive, capped by Randy Bullock's 37-yard field goal as time expired. The Packers had three straight possessions reach at least the New York 30-yard line in the second half but got only six points on two field goals (a third attempted kick missed).

"You can look and nitpick each phase of the game," LaFleur said. "Special teams wasn't good enough. Offense wasn't good enough. Defense wasn't good enough. All three collectively, and when you're bad in all three phases, that's what happens. You lose the game."

The team had been 16-0 under LaFleur in December games, the longest such winning streak in league history in the month under a single head coach.

Defensive coordinator Joe Barry is taking the brunt of the criticism Tuesday. The Giants' 209 rushing yards made them the fourth team this season (joining the Falcons, Lions and Steelers) to rush for 200 or more yards in a game against the Packers. In addition, New York had allowed a league-worst 69 sacks through its first 12 games. Since sacks became an official NFL stat in 1982, only the 1986 Eagles had given up more sacks (73) in the first dozen games. The Giants had allowed 20 sacks over their last three games, but DeVito wasn't sacked once and the Packers had only two quarterback hits.

"We were running by him left and right," LaFleur said. "We ended up with zero sacks and they I think [had] 69 coming into this game. You know, give credit to them. They obviously outcoached us, outplayed us. I felt a lot of times we had fly-bys right by the quarterback and for whatever reason just missed the quarterback."

Green Bay is one of five 6-7 teams in the NFC and through a rather convoluted process holds the tiebreaker over the Rams, Seahawks, Saints and Falcons, earning them the No. 7 seed -- for the moment, at least.

Green Bay wins a head-to-head tiebreaker with Los Angeles thanks to a 20-3 win at Lambeau on Nov. 5 and wins one against New Orleans courtesy of an 18-17 home victory in Week 3. The Packers lost in Week 2 in Atlanta and don't play Seattle.

Green Bay is -3 at home this Sunday vs. Tampa Bay and then finishes at fellow wild card hopeful Minnesota and home vs. Chicago. Green Bay's updated season win total is 8.5, with the Under a -150 favorite.

With Green Bay's loss, NFC West-leading San Francisco became the first team in the NFL to lock up a playoff spot this season. It's the first time since 1997 that the 49ers became the first club in the league to do so. San Francisco ended up losing to Green Bay in the NFC Championship Game that season.
