NFL Week 8 teasers: Proven NFL expert ranks top teaser options, plus why to avoid teasing the Bengals

R.J. White, who finished up more than 35 units on NFL ATS picks from 2017-22, shares his top teaser plays for Week 8

Last week was a minefield for teasers, with the Bills and 49ers losing outright while the Lions and Dolphins were unable to stay inside the teaser number as underdogs. Thankfully for us, our top two options hit when the Falcons and Seahawks took care of business against weaker opponents, giving us another cash for the Teaser of the Week.

This week has a bunch of teaser options as well, with all three primetime games at 8.5 at some books as of this writing and at least two other games set up to go through Teaser Alley, with the potential that others join them as the week drags along. We'll get to all of the options below.

If you've read my other content or followed my picks, you likely already know I've been SportsLine's No. 1 NFL against-the-spread expert over the last six years, going 535-450-30 against the spread to put me up more than 35 units on those picks at SportsLine since 2017. When it comes to teasers, we stress focusing on the options that go through Teaser Alley and ideally lining up with sides you already like against the main number.

If you don't know what Teaser Alley is, read on to find out. Even if you do, I'll go through every game where I believe there's a teaseable number, give you my analysis of whether it's worth putting in our bucket of potential plays, and then ranking those plays at the end, with the top two representing the best teaser play you can make this week. But if you disagree with any of the analysis for those two teaser legs, you have all the info you need to find other teaser-worthy options.

We did a good job avoiding the 49ers two weeks in a row, but the Brock Purdy concussion news has dropped that line significantly. Even if it gets under the key number of 3, I likely won't be teasing the Bengals back up. Basically, I'm not sure that Sam Darnold is a downgrade from Purdy, and he seems like the type of quarterback who can have a lot of success in Kyle Shanahan's offense. If the 49ers get Trent Williams back at left tackle, Darnold should have time to connect with the 49ers' excellent weapons on offense. On the other side, we expect Joe Burrow to look much better coming out of the bye, but what if he doesn't in a tough matchup? The Bengals rank 32nd in yards per play on the season, and while they beat the Seahawks in their last game prior to the bye, Cincinnati averaged just four yards per play on offense in that one. There are just too many unknowns to throw Cincinnati in a teaser this week.

Now let's get to the teaser legs I do think are worth considering.
