NFL Week 7 Officiating Angles: Finding Edges in Falcons-Buccaneers, Lions-Ravens and Packers-Broncos
Coming off our second straight 3-0 week in this brand-new officiating column, let's look to stay hot in Week 7. We stand at 13-5 after cashing the Under 44.5 in Vikings-Bears, the Under 41.5 in Patriots-Raiders and Lions (-3) against the spread.Â
This season, Joe Gibbs (not the Hall of Fame coach, the NFL referee expert who tweets @NFLrefstats1) is collaborating with SportsLine to provide weekly officiating angles. He analyzes the NFL referee assignments from the moment they are released each Tuesday.
Before you make any Week 7 NFL picks or NFL parlays, you need to see what Gibbs and SportsLine senior analyst Larry Hartstein have to say about the officiating crews' tendencies.
We can tell you Hartstein and Gibbs are going Under 37.5 (FanDuel) in Falcons-Buccaneers. It's a very low total, but we're anticipating subpar quarterback play from Desmond Ridder and Baker Mayfield, plus a run-heavy gameplan from Atlanta.
And we've got Ron Torbert as the referee: He's called 64% of his overall penalties on offenses, substantially above the league average of 56%. Only three of Torbert's six games have stayed Under this season, but since the start of the 2020 season he's a whopping 38-20 (68%) to the Under.
"Forty-eight percent of Torbert's overall penalties this season have been assessed on the offensive line -- via holding or false starts," Gibbs noted. "That's the highest rate for any referee through six weeks."
Hartstein also is sharing key officiating angles in Lions-Ravens and Packers-Broncos. You need to see this critical referee data before locking in your picks!
So which side of Lions-Ravens has the edge? And what other officiating edges can be found on the Week 7 slate? ... Join SportsLine right now to see Larry Hartstein's Week 6 NFL officiating trends, all from the expert who went 53-34-3 in the SuperContest last year!
