NFL Week 12 opening line projections: Early power rating adjustments to help attack spreads for every game
I came into this week thinking it would be a difficult one for several big favorites who had games that were supposed to be easy wins but also a quick turnaround during Thanksgiving week. Despite that, I backed the Lions and Dolphins, and both struggled but ultimately picked up wins while not covering. The Cowboys were only up seven heading into the third quarter but ended up covering easily, while the Commanders lost outright as big favorites while turning the ball over six times.
For some of those teams, I'm not sure much of a power ratings adjustment is needed due to the poor spot in the schedule. The Commanders' showing is obviously of concern as they made the Giants offense look competent for large stretches of the game while doing an abysmal job of protecting the ball when they had it. But I'm not really worried about the Lions or Dolphins. Despite the final result, I was impressed by the Bears defense before the late Lions rally, and if they can go into Detroit and give a very good pass offense trouble, this could be a dangerous unit down the stretch. I've moved them up in my power ratings despite the loss, and I have them even with the Saints at two points below average.
I also made plenty of other power ratings adjustments to get an idea of where I would set the spread for each Week 12 game. You can see all of my early projected spreads below, which is designed to help you attack the Week 12 opening lines later today. We'll run our full look at power ratings and official spread projections on Tuesday here at SportsLine.
