NFL Week 10 Officiating Angles: Finding Edges in Packers-Steelers, Texans-Bengals and Browns-Ravens

SportsLine expert Larry Hartstein dives into the betting trends to know involving this week's referee assignments

NFL betting can be humbling, and that was the case for this new column last week. We went 0-3, dropping us to 17-10 (+6.0 units) on the season. We had Under 40 in Buccaneers-Texans, Over 49.5 in Bills-Bengals, and the Seahawks +6. Only the Buffalo-Cincy play had any shot to cash.

On to Week 10, where we feel the officiating angles are stronger.

This season, Joe Gibbs (not the Hall of Fame coach, the NFL referee expert who tweets @NFLrefstats1) is collaborating with SportsLine to provide weekly, referee-based betting angles. He analyzes the NFL ref assignments from the moment they are released each Tuesday.

Before you make any Week 10 NFL picks or NFL parlays, you need to see what Gibbs and SportsLine senior analyst Larry Hartstein have to say about the officiating crews' tendencies.

We can tell you Hartstein and Gibbs are betting Under 39 in Packers-Steelers, a matchup of two uninspiring offenses. The assigned referee, Scott Novak, is on a 17-8 Under run dating to the start of last season. His games averaged 38.5 points last season and are averaging 36.5 points this year.

"Novak is calling an above-average 58% of his overall penalties on offenses this season," Gibbs noted, adding that the Packers are tied for first in overall penalties per game. Green Bay ranks in the top five for false starts and offensive holding calls.

Hartstein also is sharing key officiating angles in Texans-Bengals and Browns-Ravens. You need to see this critical referee data before locking in your picks!

So which side of Bills-Bengals has the edge? And what other officiating edges can be found on the Week 9 slate? ... Join SportsLine right now to see Larry Hartstein's Week 8 NFL officiating trends, all from the expert who went 53-34-3 in the SuperContest last year!
