NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds: Eagles receiver Jalen Reagor could be in perfect position
Jalen Reagor was only the fourth wide receiver off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft, taken No. 21 overall by the Philadelphia Eagles. Yet, one could argue that because of current circumstances on the Eagles that Reagor is in the best position of any wideout this year to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He is +2200 on the William Hill moneyline odds.
No question that Philadelphia has some depth issues at wideout – last year, the group was so bad/banged up that the team's three-leading pass-catchers were tight ends Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert and rookie running back Miles Sanders.
Alshon Jeffery led Eagles receivers with 43 catches, 490 yards and four TDs in 2019 while being limited to 10 games due to injury. Very possible he's not ready for the start of this season, either, as Jeffrey opened training camp on the active/physically unable to perform list.
Jeffrey, who is rehabbing a surgically-repaired Lisfranc foot injury, can be activated from the active/PUP list at any time before the season starts. But there's talk he will eventually be moved to the reserve/PUP list and thus have to miss at least the first six regular-season games.
Last week, the Eagles lost speedster Marquise Goodwin to an opt-out of this coronavirus season. He was acquired from the 49ers during the draft for a swap of late-round picks. Essentially, that leaves 33-year-old DeSean Jackson as the only accomplished receiver on the roster, and he was limited to just two games last year because of injury.
Some NFL experts were surprised the Eagles took Reagor where they did considering that LSU wideout Justin Jefferson was still on the draft board – he went No. 22 overall to Minnesota. The CBS Sports Big Board ranked Reagor the No. 45 overall player in the Class of 2020 (Jefferson was 31st) and ninth-best receiver.
Last year, Reagor had rather mediocre numbers of 43 catches, 611 yards and five scores. To be fair, TCU couldn't throw the ball whatsoever. Reagor was much better as a sophomore the season before with 72 catches for, 1,061 yards and nine TDs.
Rather amazingly, no Eagles player has won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Reagor should debut Sept. 13 at Washington, with Philly a 6-point favorite on the NFL odds.
