If you tuned in last week, you might recall that my lookahead picks for Week 6 shared a common trait. I went with three favorites by the same spread of -2.5. It's my most preferred lookahead line, given that the slightest movement upward means those who like the favorite must yield a field goal or more during the week of the game.

How did we fare? Two selections worked out slightly well, while the other went horribly bad.

The Detroit line against Dallas inched up to -3. We noted that the Lions are emerging from a bye and that the Cowboys' defense might still have big holes to fill because of injuries.

The Los Angeles Chargers' spread against Denver did the same thing, landing at -3. L.A., too, enjoyed a needed week off so its walking wounded could heal. The Broncos, same as the Cowboys, did win on Sunday, yet the lines moved away from them and toward opponents that did not play.

As for my third selection, the Saints' spread underwent a seismic shift from -2.5 to +3.5. That's what can happen with a quarterback injury. Derek Carr is out for several weeks with an oblique issue, and the drop-off to whoever replaces him is substantial.

With the Week 7 lookaheads, I'll pass on 2.5 and highlight three other opportunities.
